Romney ewes joined with entire Dorset rams showed oestrus, ovulated and conceived significantly earlier than ewes with Romney rams. The time of ram joining did not affect any of these factors. The advance in the onset of the breeding season with Dorset rams is not sufficient for this effect to be used for early lamb production. The whole of the literary matter of the Proceedings of the New Zealand Society of Animal Production is copyright New Zealand Society of Animal Production, Downloading this article signifies agreement with the terms and conditions of electronic access.
