Abstract: For those starting to see behavioural medicine cases, one of the more challenging aspects is deciding on appropriate behaviour modification techniques to recommend to clients and then effectively demonstrating their implementation. As veterinarians we tend to be familiar with prescribing medications but have far less experience with training animals. For many of us, behaviour modification sits outside our comfort zone. Even if medication is used in the treatment of behaviour cases, results are improved and less prone to regression when an effective behaviour modification plan is put in place.1,2
