Abstract: Squamous cell carcinoma is one of the most common equine cancers; it affects a wider range of anatomic structures than any other tumour. It is often cited as the second or third most frequently reported type of neoplasm in horses, and has been estimated to comprise 7-31% of total neoplasms in various surveys. Horses of any age can be affected by SCC, with reports in animals as young as 1 year. However, it is most often reported in older horses, with mean ages of 12.0 and 12.4 years in two surveys conducted in the USA.4,24
