Abstract: Australian livestock are grazed on a range of pasture species, fodder crops and crop residues. These are intended to provide a nutritious diet that maximises the production and welfare of the animals. However, under certain conditions, many of these plants that are fed may become toxic. In addition, there are many weeds in pastures and crops that may present the risk of poisoning to livestock. McKenzie’s Maxim, “The animal species, the dose and the circumstances make the poison”, is an ever present consideration.
