Abstract: Since the 1980s good welfare practice for domestic animals in Australia has been described by 22 Model Codes of Practice for the Welfare of Animals. The Codes are prepared by the Animal Welfare Committee (AWC) within the Primary Industries Ministerial Council (PIMC) system. They are intended as guides for the care and management of animals and to set an industry standard by defining acceptable management practices.
