Abstract: Antimicrobial use in chickens in Australia is tightly regulated and few antimicrobials are registered for use in meat chickens or hens laying eggs for human consumption. There is no systematic surveillance of antimicrobial resistance in animals in Australia but we have conducted some studies, mostly of meat chickens and some limited studies of layer hens.
