Abstract: A very good account of the life of Harold William Bennetts is provided in the Melbourne University Veterinary School Roll of Honour which also includes his obituary published in the Australian Veterinary Journal in 1971. Maughan(1993) provided some additional history of his life. The list of the 101 publications by Bennetts can be found with his obituary in the Aust Vet J 1971; 47:67-70. Although the purpose of this paper is to explore the scientific journey of discovery which Bennetts took with several important diseases of livestock, a brief summary of his life is provided as background.
