Abstract: This paper will explore the main challenges currently facing the Australian pig veterinarians in maintaining (and demonstrating maintenance of) control over the use of prescription animal remedies (PARs). PARs include any product registered as schedule 4 (S4) under the Standard for the Uniform Scheduling of Medicines and Poisons. While the vast majority of antibiotics are S4 products, there are also anti-inflammatory medications, reproductive hormone products and some vaccines that are also S4s.
