Abstract: EDS is typically a disease of brown egg layers and broiler breeders, first described in 1976 in the Netherlands. It is characterised by delayed laying, 3040% drop in egg production and laying of thin-shelled, soft-shelled, shell less and pigment deficient eggs. Since 1976, EDS has become a major cause of egg loss in commercial poultry flocks throughout the world.
