Abstract:

Two dogs were presented (separately) with meth/amphetamine toxicosis. Case 1 had severe and prolonged clinical manifestations that failed to respond to acepromazine and esmolol. Both cases showed rapid improvement of clinical signs following intravenous lipid emulsion (IVLE) therapy with no adverse reactions. This finding suggests the potential for IVLE to be considered as a rescue treatment option, to decrease hospitalisation time and cost of care. Further prospective studies on the use of IVLE in meth/amphetamine toxicosis is warranted.
