Abstract:
CASE REPORT: A 16-year-old 20-kg entire female mixedbreed dog was diagnosed with multiple aortic insufficiency jets on transthoracic echocardiography. The aortic valve leaflets were thickened and hyperechoic, and there was turbulence and increased aortic flow velocity. These changes are compatible with aortic stenosis secondary to aortic sclerosis. In human patients this disease is closely associated with age, dyslipidaemia, hypertension and diabetes mellitus and usually results in secondary aortic stenosis.
CONCLUSION: Although this is an unusual finding in dogs, in this case there were alterations in the lipid profile as well as the echocardiographic alterations.
