Abstract:

The Racing Integrity Board has released guidance to trainers regarding the use of sedatives during ridden exercise. This directive still falls within the rules of prescribing Restricted Veterinary Medicines. Its development stems from the RIB’s concern regarding reports of routine sedation of horses for training in some stables. This Guidance Document below provides further clarification, predominantly aimed at trainers, regarding the use of sedatives during training and under what circumstances the RIB sees this as appropriate.
