Should it stay or should it go? Decision making for dental extractions

Abstract: Extraction of teeth is in some circumstances the ultimate failure in dentistry. However there are many reasons why teeth may be required to be extracted. Some of these reasons ore based on failures on our part, the patients part or genetics. The decision to extract is, and should be, one not to be taken lightly. As of yet there is no coming back from a tooth extraction, so the operator must be sure that it is the best thing to do for their patient. These decisions are predominantly influenced by dental health issues, however other factors do come into play such as – Owner’s wishes, Patient factors and Practitioner factors...
