Abstract: Sources of biochemical and haematological data for normal adult sheep include Spector (1956), Wagner and Brown (1966), Van Zyl (1967), Birkeland (1968a, b), and Young et al (1965). Little information exists on the extent to which these parameters may be influenced by age, although variations between certain juvenile and adult values are well recognized in other sources (Bergmeyer, 1963; Spector, 1956; Donawich and Baue, 1968). This paper reports the results of examinations made on the blood and urine of unweaned lambs running on ryegrass/clover pasture with their dams. The examinations were aimed at establishing some normal ranges for biochemical and haematological values in lambs under New Zealand pastoral conditions, and were performed during the course of investigation into the various effects of Clostridium perfringens type D epsilon toxin on the same animals (Gardner, unpublished).
