Abstract: Veterinary surgeons throughout the country may have noted the increasing number of articles appearing in veterinary journals dealing wiith chromosome studies in domestic animals. Because of the well established use of cytogenetic techniques in human medicine and the increasing prospects of of their use in veterinary science, the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries has given Massey University a research contract for a period of 3 years. In brief, this contract is to advance work already achieved and to investigate and hopefully establish cytogenetic techniques as an aid to veterinary diagnosis.
