Abstract: Since Rommel et al (1972) first found sporocysts in the faeces of cats that were fed oesophageal cysts of Sarcocystis tenella from sheep, knowledge about this and other species of Sarcocystis and of related genera has increased considerably. Ford (1974) showed that a microscopic sarcocyst found in sheep muscle was transmissible through dogs. Thus there appeared to be at least two species of Sarcocystis in sheep
