Abstract: The Ministry of Agriculture`s main efforts in disease eradication have been concentrated on the Tuberculosis and Brucellosis Eradication Schemes, and it is unlikely that any other major scheme will be introduced in the near future. The development of new disease control schemes is dependent on the international, political, and social pressures at the time, and the economic climate in the country. To be able to advise Government on the action that should be taken with regard to any future disease control or eradication policy, the Animal Health Division must be in a position to provide a comprehensive picture of the current animal disease situation in the country. The required information is accumulated through the Division`s disease surveillance systems. The collection of pertinent information is never complete and new sources are being explored.
