Abstract: Any condition which leads to a diminution in the size or alteration of the shape of the lumen of the respiratory tract in the horse may result in the production of abnormal respiratory noises at exercise. In recent years the most commonly diagnosed causes of abnormal respiratory noises in horses in New Zealand have been laryngeal hemiplegia and the soft palate paresis syndrome. Other causes of these noises are found at Massey University Veterinary Clinic. This paper deals with four such conditions.
