Abstract: Accurate detection of oestrus in the cow is one of the more significant factors influencing the calving index. Heats may be undetected for a variety of reasons, as terms such as silent heat and no visible oestrus imply, but the end result is that the problem is found to some extent in all herds. During the 1976 breeding season the opportunity was taken of monitoring the use of cloprostenol for the treatment of nondetected cycling cows in a 110-cow factory-supply herd
