Abstract: The first phase of the Brucellosis Eradication Scheme was completed on 31 August 1977 with virtually all eligible cattle coming under test. This edition of the Veterinary Journal is given over to a series of papers describing the development, organisation and implementation of the scheme. The New Zealand Brucellosis Eradication Scheme was officially started on 1 October 1971 when the Cattle Brucellosis and Tuberculosis Control Regulations came into force and the government agreed to provide sufficient finance for testing and compensation. The total cost to the end of the 1976/77 season was nearly $25 million
