Abstract: We are extremely disappointed to read the letter of Messrs Hicks, Burr, Marshall and Vidler in which the complement fixation test (CFT) for ovine brucellosis was condemned. While appreciating fully the frustrations which these authors have experienced, we suggest that their recommendations to clients have been made in a rather hasty manner and perhaps have been fanned a little by Norwester in the NZ Farmer Journal. The imperfections of the CFT and its interpretation for ovine brucellosis are well known and are now generally traceable to one of several reasons, as outlined by Ris and in Surveillance)
