Abstract: Having attended a course on management and diseases of sheep in Edinburgh in March this year, which included a paper on scrapie disease by Dr J. T. Stamp, and following conversation with those involved in scrapie research in the UK, we write in support of Prof. A. N. Bruere`s point of view regarding this disease. The question of irresponsibility by the Ministry arises in the correspondence and we would suggest that the (then) Department of Agriculture acted irresponsibly by importing sheep from the UK for their cross-breeding experiments, contrary to the advice given by scrapie experts at both Moredun and Compton Research Institutes…
