Abstract: I should be grateful for the opportunity to reply to the detailed and well-reasoned comments made by Collins et al. in relation to my recent letter in your journal. My letter was written to alert workers to the possibility that oral dosing of sheep with sporocysts from cats could lead to the production of sarcocysts; previous investigations have suggested that this line of investigation might be fruitless. I am quite willing to agree that, due to unfortunate circumstances, the design of my experiment was not ideal, but I believe the results are of value as a spur for more controlled trials. I would suggest that the third explanation proposed by Collins et al. is the most likely for the following reasons
