Abstract: In reply to the letter of Quinlivan and Wallace in this issue, I must state that their comments give me no reason to modify or retract my comments in Surveillance (1978) No.5. Communications I have had with the Animal Remedies Board indicate that the licensing of a product depends on, amongst other things, the method of administration as stated on the product label. Of course, practitioners can use alternative techniques but, before doing so, they should ensure that the efficacy of the product is not reduced by the alternative method. My real concern is that the efficacy of the vaccine, when given by intraperitoneal route, has never been tested, i.e. no challenge testing has been published…
