Abstract: I refer to the letter to the editor on Egg-drop-syndrome-1976 adenovirus in New Zealand by Durham and Cathcart. The survey results are interesting, indicating that this particular adenovirus is not indigenous to the commercial chicken population in N.Z. The results confirm similarexperiences in the USA and southern Germany, but are in contrast to reports from many other countries where a similar virus or antibodies have been found. Considering the tremendous traffic of live birds, at least in the EEC countries, lack of contact seems a somewhat unlikely explanation for this discrepancy
