Abstract: To test the effectiveness of N.Z. Meat inspection standards the value of posterior mediastinal lymph nodes as a disease indicator was examined. The prevalence of pleurisy in adult sheep in N.Z. is high and different judgement criteria are laid down by importing countries. The posterior mediastinal lymph node is one of particular importance as it drains parts of the pleura, lungs, oesophagus, mediastinum, diaphragm and liver capsule
