Abstract: The development of a well-tolerated 200mg/ml formulation of oxytetracycline with long-acting characteristics (Terramycin/LA), capable of maintaining therapeutic blood levels from 3-5 days after one injection, has been reported. During 1982 the clinical performance of this product, Terramycin/LA Injectable Solution, was monitored under field conditions with 58 New Zealand practitioners. These veterinarians were supplied with Terramycin/LA to be used in the treatment of conditions for which the product had not previously been used by the practitioners. A simple case report form was also provided to record the clinical response to the product together with other relevant information on the condition and the animal. Practitioners were requested to use Terramycin/LA as a single treatment at the recommended dose rate of 20mg/kg of bodyweight. Fifty-eight treatments were reported: 46 in cattle, and the remainder in deer (4) pigs (6) and goats (2). The clinical response in 37 cattle (80%) treated was recorded in the Excellent/Good categories, representing responses better than the traditional therapy applied for the condition
