Abstract: It has been that time of year again when people go away on holiday and their animals go away to boarding establishments. Unfortunately it has also been the time of year when we as vaccine manufacturers are on the receiving end of critical comments about the veterinary profession from owners of cats and catteries. Too often we hear of veterinarians who have assured clients that their cats have been properly vaccinated, whereas in fact they have done `only part of the job. While we are sure these practitioners are in the minority, they do not do much for the public image of the profession. It is unreasonable to allow holiday-going owners to proceed to the cattery in the belief that all is well, only to be either turned away by a conscientious proprietor, or admitted with a poor immune status by the less careful. May we repeat the general message previously printed in this Journal, that directions for vaccine administration are included in vaccine packs and ought to be followed
