Abstract: The paper published in the New Zealand Veterinary Journal entitled Feline Struvite Crystalluria: a Comparison of some commercially available dry cat diets in New Zealand by M F Tarttelin raises some issues with respect to Feline Urological Syndrome (FUS) in this country. Definitions of FUS vary but the syndrome usually includes all inflammatory diseases of the lower urinary tract of the cat. Both males and females are affected but only males to develop urethral obstruction and its serious consequences. It is generally accepted that FUS is a condition of multifactorial aetiology. This view is supported by the failure to identify a single cause and the demonstration of a number of factors associated with increased risk of the disease.
