Abstract: In reply to Dr J L Grayson`s letter, Dr Grayson queried the whole blood clotting time (WBCT) at day 29 of treatment. This was correct as printed, being ten minutes and not one minute. With regard to a WBCT in the high normal range, due to the six day half life of brodifacoum, and the severity of presenting signs, I elected to continue antidotal therapy with Vitamin K3 for an additional ten days. At the time of writing I was unaware that Vitamin K, was available in New Zealand in oral form. Due to its prompt action it is the antidote of choice, and can be used at the dosage recommended by Mount et al. Intoxication with second generation anticoagulants is becoming increasingly common both in New Zealand and Australia.
