Abstract: This special Jubilee Issue celebrates 50 years of publication of the New Zealand Veterinary Journal. The Journal was initially established by the New Zealand Veterinary Association to serve as “a personal journal for the veterinary profession in New Zealand” and was first published in September 1952. Since then, it has grown to become internationally recognised as a high quality, peer-reviewed scientific journal publishing articles on all aspects of veterinary science, including animal welfare, health and production. The Journal specialises in articles related to the pastoral farming of cattle, sheep, deer and horses, and in research and clinical experience on companion animals and wildlife that is particularly applicable to New Zealand. In recent years, the Journal has consistently ranked in the top quartile of veterinary science journals in the world, based on its citation index (ISI Journal Citation Reports), and now has nearly 2000 subscribers comprising veterinarians, researchers, academics, government and pharmaceutical industry representatives and private consultants in more than 40 countries around the globe.
